Job Description

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

LOCATION: Plaza Elementary School
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
EFFECTIVE DATE: 2025-2026 School Year
WORK YEAR: 11-Month

RESPONSIBILITIES: 
This assistant principal position is visible, active, and involved in the daily operations of the school building. This individual works directly and collaboratively with the principal to facilitate instructional practices, ensure the physical plant is safe and secure, oversee student discipline and attendance management, and manage daily building operations. They are responsive to the needs of students and staff, remain highly visible, and engage in the school day. 

Job Qualifications
  • A valid New York State School Building Leader Certificate or School Administrator Supervisor Certificate
  • Minimum five years of teaching experience
  • Outstanding leadership qualities
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide targeted feedback to enhance teaching effectiveness and student learning outcomes
  • Actively participate in and support school events, professional development workshops, and community outreach activities to foster stakeholder engagement and school culture
  • Critical thinking & problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of elementary curriculum across all subject areas, with specialized expertise in the Science of Reading methodology
  • Serve as a collaborative member of the school leadership and grade-level teams
  • Experienced in implementing Response to Intervention (RtI) and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) processes, with expertise in designing and implementing Tier I and Tier II intervention strategies
  • Skilled in developing and utilizing higher-order questioning techniques to promote critical thinking and enhance student cognitive engagement
  • Background in special education
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Confidence, determination & self-starter
  • Compassion & empathy
  • Ability to uphold rules & regulations for all students
  • Willingness to learn and grow professionally
  • Other building leadership tasks as assigned by the building principal and other supervising administrators
