DESCRIPTION: The District is seeking an outstanding, visionary leader who will be responsible for coordinating and directing the physical education and health programs. They facilitate the planning, implementation, and evaluation of PE and Health grades K-12, interscholastic athletics grades 7-12 intramural and youth athletic opportunities, and school nurses for a diverse school community.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise personnel in the Physical Education, Interscholastic Athletics and Health Education departments, and school nurses within the framework of District policies and relevant contracts.
- Recruit, interview, screen and recommend qualified persons to fill openings on physical education and health education instructional staff, nurses and on the extracurricular athletics coaching staff.
- Provide strategic leadership, supervision, and evaluation of all staff within Health, Physical Education, Athletics, Recreation, and Student Health Services.
- Design, implement, and assess K-12 Physical Education and Health Education programs that align with New York State standards and promote lifelong wellness, inclusivity, and safety.
- Manage interscholastic and intramural athletic programs to ensure student safety, competitive excellence, and adherence to Section VIII and NYSPHSAA policies.
- Lead recruitment, hiring, mentoring, and professional growth opportunities for teaching, coaching, and health service staff.
- Develop and administer annual budgets for Health, Physical Education, Athletics, Recreation, and Student Health Services, ensuring fiscal responsibility and effective allocation of resources and assume responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining equipment and supplies.
- Oversee facility use, maintenance, and scheduling for athletic, physical education, and community events to ensure safety, accessibility, and optimal utilization. Recommend procedures and assignments for the management of student use of indoor and outdoor athletic facilities.
- Recommend and monitor improvements, alterations, and repairs of indoor and outdoor athletic facilities.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, equity, and respect among students, staff, families, and the community through clear communication and positive engagement.
- Act as direct representative to Nassau County Athletic Association Section XIII of the New York State Public High Schools Athletic Association.
- Attend all meetings of Nassau County Director of Physical Education and Health.
- Serve as district liaison with relevant councils, associations, and health or athletic governing bodies.
- Monitor student eligibility, academic progress, and participation requirements in compliance with district and state policies.
- Implement systems for health record compliance, student medical documentation, and return-to-play or return-to-school protocols following illness or injury.
- Supervise the implementation of the District AED plan.
- Evaluate program effectiveness through data collection, needs assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with district goals.
- Recommend opportunities for professional development for all departmental staff through workshops, conferences, etc.
- Represent the District at local, regional, and state meetings, conferences, and athletic associations.
- Communicate effectively with principals, coaches, parents, and community stakeholders through newsletters, social media, and public relations initiatives.
- Work with the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources in the assignment, evaluation, transfer, or dismissal of staff members.
- Supervise and support all nursing staff across all school buildings, providing leadership, coordination, and oversight throughout the entire school day as well as during athletic activities and events
- Work collaboratively with administrator(s) to oversee and support school nurses and ensure effective delivery of comprehensive student health services, including immunizations, medical clearances, and CPR/AED certification and training compliance.
- Work collaboratively with administrator(s) to oversee the development, implementation, and compliance of Individual Health Plans (IHPs), 504 Plans, and other student health accommodations in collaboration with nurses, administrators, and support teams
- Coordinate emergency preparedness efforts related to athletic and health programs, ensuring staff are trained in CPR, AED, and first aid.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and/or Assistant Superintendents, or Designee.
