Job Description

DEAN OF STUDENTS

The Dean of Students is a full-time building administrator responsible for overseeing and supporting one assigned grade level. The Dean serves as a visible, active presence in the daily operations of the school and works collaboratively with the principal and the building administrative team to foster a positive school culture and climate.

This role supports student success by promoting academic achievement, positive behavior, and consistent attendance while ensuring a safe, secure, and well-managed learning environment. The Dean of Students assists in maintaining the efficient operation of the school, supports staff, and helps implement instructional and behavioral expectations that contribute to student growth and school-wide success.
 

LOCATION: Baldwin High School
EFFECTIVE: July 1, 2026
SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary in accordance with the Association of Baldwin Administrators Contract,10.5 month position

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

 

Job Qualifications
  • Oversee all matters related to the assigned grade level, including attendance, behavior, academic progress, extracurricular participation, and student safety.
  • Respond to staff referrals related to student discipline and conduct during arrival, dismissal, lunch periods, hallway supervision, after-school activities, and other designated times.
  • Promote equity and culturally responsive leadership by ensuring that school policies, practices, and disciplinary procedures are implemented in a fair and inclusive manner that supports the success and well-being of all students.
  • Facilitate and promote restorative practices, including restorative circles, mediation, and conflict resolution strategies, to address student behavior while strengthening relationships within the school community.
  • Enforce and support implementation of the district’s Code of Conduct in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Support the implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to promote positive student behavior, reduce disciplinary incidents, and create a supportive school climate.
  • Collaborate with the school counseling department to support student wellness through mediation, restorative circles, and other intervention strategies.
  • Work with Attendance Coordinators to monitor attendance patterns and support the implementation and refinement of attendance policies and procedures.
  • Supervise and assist with the coordination of arrival, dismissal, hallway transitions, and general daily building operations.
  • Conduct classroom observations, walkthroughs, and staff evaluations as assigned.
  • Support department supervisors and administrators with instructional initiatives, program implementation, and departmental oversight.
  • Foster student voice and engagement by creating opportunities for students to share feedback, participate in leadership opportunities, and contribute to initiatives that enhance school culture and climate.
  • Supervise evening and school-related events as assigned by the building principal.
  • Assist with emergency response procedures and safety protocols as part of the building leadership team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.
